You use your lungs to breathe oxygen into your body. Your lungs also remove the carbon dioxide and other waste gases that your body doesn't need out of your body. When you inhale to take a breath you use the muscles near your rib cage called the diaphragm. Your diaphragm tightens and flattens allowing you to bring air into your lungs. You can show your love for your lungs by exercising and never smoking. Most people can hold their breath for between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. The world record  is an astonishing 24 minutes and 3 seconds.
