Public speaking is the process or act of performing to a live audience. This type of speech is generally meant to inform, entertain or to persuade an audience. Public speaking is also called oration. Strategies for becoming a better public speaker include:

  • Planning your communication appropriately by structuring what you're going to say and thinking about questions your listeners will have

  • Be sure to practice

  • Engage with your audience by focusing your speech to individuals or groups

  • Pay attention to your body language by standing up straight and looking people in the eye

  • Be as confident you can be - the audience will know if you are nervous.

  • The best advice about public speaking is understand that you will be nervous but the more you do it the easier it will become over time.
