A Comet is a big ball of ice and rock. They are leftovers from the beginning of the solar system. Comets fly through space and when they come close to the sun they warm and began to release gases producing a visible atmosphere and sometimes a tail. The Comet's tail will always point away from the sun

Meteoroid's are chunks of rock or metal from space that all through the atmosphere surrounding Earth creating a point streak of light called a meteor. Meteors are also called shooting stars. If the meteoroid survives its fall and reaches the Earth's surface is called a meteorite.

An asteroid is a chunk of rock and metal in outer space that orbits around the sun. Asteroids can vary in size from tiny little rocks to hundreds of miles in diameter. Most asteroids are not round, but shaped like a potato. There are millions of asteroids in the belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids are similar to comets but do not have a visible tail. Some asteroids are so large they are considered minor planets.

Planets in our solar system circle around the sun. There are eight planets in our solar system. Smaller planets with solid ground include Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. There are four larger gas giants including Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. We are learning new things about our neighboring planets all the time. We send astronauts to space to take pictures, gather information and find out more about them. Their are eight planets inside of our own solar system and thousands of planets outside of our solar system.
