Your body is AMAZING!!!
Your brain is in charge of just about everything, it's the boss! Your brain has many different parts that all must work together. The five main parts of the brain are the cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, pituitary gland and the hypothalamus. The biggest part of the brain is the cerebrum. It the controls your voluntary muscles and thinking. Scientists believe that the right half helps you think about abstract things, like music or colors, and the left half is more analytical, helping you with math and logic.
The human ear is amazing. Sound is funneled through the external ear and sent to the ear canal where soundwaves touch the eardrum. The eardrum vibrates when the soundwaves hit it. Tiny hair cells translate the vibrations into electrical impulses that travel to the brain. The brain decodes the message ...and that's how you hear!
The eye is a very complex system of cells and nerves. First light must reflect off an object to the eye. The cornea bends this light that passes through a hole of the pupil. The colored part of the eye, the iris, works like the shutter of a camera retracting to shut out light or opening wider to let more light in. The light is focused on the retina which is full of nerve cells. These cells are shaped like rods and cones. Cones translate light and colors and give you details. The rods translate light into peripheral vision and motion.
Your heart is a pump. The right side of your heart receives blood from your body and pumps it into your lungs. The left side of your heart receives blood from your lungs and pumps it into your body. Your heart is about the size of your fist. Your heart is made of muscles and it constantly pumps blood through your body every minute of the day. It pumps blood and the movement is called involuntary because you don't have to think about it and it does it anyway. most people believe the heart is on the left side of your body, but they are wrong, your heart is actually in the middle of your chest between your lungs. It is protected by your ribs.
The circulatory system is responsible for carrying your blood away from and back to the heart. It is made up of blood vessels, arteries, and veins that carry blood around your body. The circulatory system carries oxygen, nutrients and hormones to cells. It also removes waste products like carbon dioxide.
