The rules of capitalization are pretty cut and dry.

  • Always capitalize the first word of any sentence.
  • Capitalize people's names.
  • Capitalize words that are proper nouns including cities, countries, companies, religions and political parties.
  • Capitalize the first word of a quote ( most of the time ).
  • Capitalize days of the week, months of the year, and holidays, but not seasons.
  • Capitalize cities, countries, nationalities and languages.
  • Capitalize time periods and events in history (most of the time).
