Acid Rain

What is Acid rain? It is a rainfall made acidic by pollution found in the atmosphere. The main cause of acid rain is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels that combined with atmospheric water to form acid. Acid rain has elevated levels of hydrogen ions and can have a harmful effect on plants, animals and people. Liquids with the pH of less than 7 are acidic and those with a pH greater than 7 are alkaline.

What causes acid rain?  Acid rain is caused by human beings. Sulfur and nitrogen compounds from generating electricity and from motor vehicles on the number one source of acid rain.
