An aquarium is a water filled tank in which fish and other aquatic  life can live. Generally have at least one transparent side in which aquatic plants or animals are kept and displayed. In 1850 scientists discovered that if you add plants to the water in a container they would give off enough oxygen to support animals as long as the number of animals did not grow too large. The first public aquarium was located inside the London zoo in 1853. Modern aquariums have evolved into a wide range of specialized systems. Aquariums can vary in size from a small bowl, large enough for only a small fish, to huge public aquariums that can simulate entire marine ecosystems. The Georgia aquarium in Atlanta is the largest aquarium in the world housing more  then 100,000 sea creatures. The Georgia aquarium is one of the few in the world to hold whale sharks in a gigantic 24 million liter, or 6.3 million gallon, tank.
